Who We Are

Jennifer Richards Dr. Jennifer Richards is an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Communications, and Education at the University of Tennessee and is the Curriculum Specialist for Tennessee 4-H. She developed and is the Director of the Hands On program, which has served over 45,000 students since 2007. She is an experienced middle school classroom teacher with extensive research experience in developing, validating, and evaluating interdisciplinary curricula and teacher professional development. Dr. Richards secures external funding for the program, recruits team members and affiliated faculty, and actively builds networks among classroom teachers and school system administrators to ensure the sustainability and success of the Hands On program.
IMG_5582 Carrie Pratt is the Program Manager for the Hands On program. Carrie taught middle school in North Carolina for six years, where she implemented the Hands On program and trained fellow teachers. As Program Manager, Carrie will help create and manage the curriculum, run the teacher training workshops, and promote the program.
IMG_5576 Mark Wenke is master’s candidate in the Food Science program at the University of Tennessee. As the Graduate Research Assistant with Hands On, Mark will coordinate implementations with schools, ship supplies to schools, and maintain the Hands On e-mail account.
IMG_5580 Oakley G. Perry is an undergraduate student in the Agricultural Leadership Education and Communications program at the University of Tennessee. Oakley will help manage the Hands On supply inventory for the year.
