|James William Swart is the Education Program Manager for the Grocery Manufacturers Association Science and Education Foundation. In this role, James manages the day-to-day operations of the Hands On program and other educational programs for the GMA SEF. James corresponds with teachers to schedule implementations, coordinate supply shipments, and pilot test new curricular products. In addition to the daily operations, James also oversees the marketing and expansion of the program. James holds a Masters degree with a focus in Curriculum Development from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Psychology and Science teaching methods from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
James co-authored the Hands On: Food Fundamentals with Dr. Richards and served on the design team for the Hands On: Culinary and Nutrition curriculum.
|Dr. Jennifer Richards is an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Communications, and Education at the University of Tennessee and is the Curriculum Specialist for Tennessee 4-H. She is an experienced middle school classroom teacher with extensive research experience in developing, validating, and evaluating interdisciplinary curricula and teacher professional development. Dr. Richards authored the Hands On: Food Safety curriculum in 2006, and served as the program director until 2018.
Dr. Richards still assists with the development new curriculum, training new teachers, and speaking on behalf of the Hands On program. She holds a BS in Education from Miami University (Ohio) and a PhD in Curriculum, Research, and Evaluation from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
