The Hands On program is a free, interactive, research-based multidisciplinary food safety program which integrates Science, Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, and Vocabulary.
Hands On meets state mandated curriculum standards in math, science, social studies, and English/language arts. This unit is designed to provide an example of best practices in middle level instruction with the hope that it will model instructional practices that participating teachers will adopt into their regular classroom practice. All materials and supplies are provided free of charge, thanks to funding and grants from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, and corporate sponsors.
Hands On was developed by a former middle school teacher, and uses researched-based practices to help students learn and retain important concepts. The Hands On program also provides free professional development opportunities which strengthen their instructional skill set and are applicable to teaching almost any subject matter.
